Francesc Cecília i Conesa is a Ramón y Cajal Researcher at the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology (IPNA-CSIC). He holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Archaeology from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, JAE PreDoc) and the University of Barcelona. Francesc has served as a postdoctoral researcher in the Landscape Archaeology Research Group at the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (2020–2024) and at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research at the University of Cambridge (2018–2020).
His general research interests focus on the natural and anthropogenic relationships that shape Cultural Landscapes, encompassing topics such as long-term ecological footprints, historical land use, and endangered cultural heritage. His work integrates geoarchaeology with innovative remote sensing and Earth Observation methodologies, aiming to facilitate the identification of archaeological features across multiple scales of analysis. Currently, he co-directs archaeological programs in Kachchh (India) and the Canary Islands, and he collaborates on research and field explorations in diverse archaeological and ecological contexts, including South Asia, the Mediterranean region, Central Asia, and Mongolia.
