Profile

Natalia Égüez is a Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow (IPNA-CSIC). She holds a degree in Geography (2008, University of Barcelona), a master’s degree in Archaeology (2012, University of Barcelona), and a PhD in Natural Sciences (2018, Christian-Albrechts Universität Kiel, Germany). As a postdoctoral researcher, she has worked at the University of La Laguna, Spain (2019–2020), the University of Haifa, Israel (2021), and the University of California Davis, USA, as well as the Archaeological Micromorphology and Biomarkers Laboratory (AMBI Lab, University of La Laguna) with her Marie Skłodowska-Curie project IBERHUNT: Palaeolithic Ungulate Hunting Strategies in the Eastern Iberian Peninsula through Advanced Proteomic Profiling (MSCA-IF-2020 101032608, 2022–2024).

In addition, she has been an Explorer of the National Geographic Society since 2018 and has undertaken several national and international postdoctoral research stays, including at the Charles McBurney Laboratory for Geoarchaeology (2019, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom). She has worked as a geoarchaeologist in prehistoric sites across Africa, Europe, and Asia over the past 15 years. Currently, her research focuses on understanding the socioeconomic dynamics of human groups and their relationships with animals, considering adaptations to the natural environment and the creation of cultural landscapes, integrating micromorphological analyses of soils and sediments with biomolecular techniques.
